100 Bedded Tertiary Cancer Care Centre at STNM Hospital

Project Location: STNM, Sochakgang, Gangtok, East Sikkim

Project Architect: Lhendup W. Bhutia

Status: Proposed

STNM Hospital (Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial Hospital) is a prominent healthcare institution in Sikkim, India.

The new STNM Hospital building is an architectural and functional milestone for Sikkim, designed to accommodate the growing healthcare demands of the state. It integrates sustainable building practices and a patient-friendly layout.

Currently, there are five district hospitals being built in the state, namely: Singtam, Soreng, Namchi, Mangan and Pakyong. Additionally, two 50 bedded critical care units are being built at STNM, Sochakgang and Geyzing district hospital.

However, the oncology department of the 1000 bedded STNM hospital is in urgent requirement for a proper infrastructure for treating the patients.

With the increasing population and urbanization in Gangtok and surrounding areas, the need for an advanced multi-specialty hospital has become critical.

Many parts of Sikkim are rural, with limited access to basic and advanced healthcare. STNM bridges this gap, offering services to people across the state and nearby regions.

Hence, a 100 Bedded Tertiary Cancer Care centre along with a 100 Bedded Psychiatric Hospital has been proposed under the able and visionary leadership of hon’ble Chief Minister Shri PS Golay.
