Cho-Lung-Trul-Sum at Thangu

Project Location: Lachen, North Sikkim

Project Architect: Sonam T. Tashi

Status: Under Construction

The project proposal in Thangu envisions  establishing a statue of Maitreya Buddha, which in turn will enhance and strengthen the faith of Nyingma Buddhism in Sikkim. The project will supplement the tourism of Thangu in the form of a religious, leisure and a sightseeing destination.

The site is located above Gurudongmar connecting road and has a beautiful panoramic view of Chopta Valley to the West. The site hosts three main blocks:

1.     Block A: Block A hosts a lounge, a caretaker’s residence, public washrooms, kitchen and a cafeteria.

2.     Block B: Block B hosts a Museum/Exhibition Hall, Sick room, Toilets, a lounge with a fireplace and administrative offices.

3.     Block C: Block C hosts a Viewing Area, Café, Reception and Guest Rooms.

Besides the blocks, the site has a Meditation Hall (Thee), Chorten, Chimee Lakhang, a Viewing Deck facing the Gompa, a 107’ tall statue of Maitreya Buddha and ‘Om Mane Pey Mey Hum’ script on a slope.

A connecting bridge has also been provided from Block B to the Meditation Hall (Thee) with a Giant Mane at the centre.
